Pro Tournament 21

THE PRO TOURNAMENT 21

The Pro Tournament 21.... Diamond in the Rough
"The ultimate in offshore sport fishing performance"

This offshore power boat design, powered by a single outboard, the Pro Tournament 21 is untouchable in the open water, and yet the 21 will really prove itself when conditions deteriorate. With a standard 200 litre fuel tank capacity, 25 degree deadrise at midship and flared bows, the Pro Tournament 21 will get you there faster, drier, and smoother than the rest.

To put it simply...a Diamond in the Rough !

Other features also include a livewell, toilet facilites, enormous total fish box capacity, walk through transom, recessed grab rails and a huge cockpit area for where all the action is on your offshore fishing rampages.

Loaded to 1400kg (3085 lbs), a single 150 -175 HP will push the Pro Tournament 21 to approx 40+ kts pending load, choice of motor, gearbox ratio and prop selection. As with all our designs, seaworthiness and comfort (smooth ride) is our main priority, not speed. The speeds listed above are approximate and not guaranteed. They are based on the designed displacement and may vary if displacement (or weight) varies.

Pro Tournament 21

Is it possible to have a cuddy cab with this hull design?

This is a question that is so often asked and the answer is No.

The Pro Tournament 21 was designed specifically as a centre console. With each design, right at the very beginning we have a specific purpose in mind and then design the boat to meet that criteria. In the case of the PT21, it  was designed to be a hardcore, offshore fishing boat, long, lean, mean and light. As a part of the design spiral, the Pro Tournament series had to meet specific requirements: Performance/ seakeeping/ especially stability/ a deep deadrise for wild offshore conditions, a "mattress" ride...the list goes on and on.

By adding a cabin, everything changes and the Pro Tournament 21 wouldn't meet the criteria that we designed it for.

Build as per the plans...you won't be disappointed !

 PRO TOURNAMENT 21 CONSTRUCTION

PRO TOURNAMENT 21 CONSTRUCTION

Just about anybody can build a boat using the Bowdidge Marine Design Strip Plank Composite system. This method eliminates many members that ordinarily require fitting, fairing, and beveling. Thus, it's ideal for beginners. A jigsaw and drill are about the only power tools required. The resulting boat is incredibly light weight, strong, and durable.

This quick and easy boat building method consists of laying the planks onto the temporary frames, allowing the planks to "find their own way" from bow to stern. We also use tile spacers to provide the gaps between the planks to push the glue through at a later stage. Once the planks are fixed into position, we can then begin gluing the planking into place. By doing things this way, we're not under pressure to plank up fast due to the glue going off, but working at our own pace. It also means that the planks themselves are not tortured into position, using clamps or whatever to hold down, but the planks "naturally" want to lay down as they ar laying naturally of finding their own path. Its that easy.

Build method in summary:

  • Build the strongback
  • Cut temporary frames and transom and assemble onto the strongback
  • Begin strip planking the hull (dry)
  • Fill the gaps between the planks with glue and  then glass the hull
  • Bog, fair ready for painting
  • Roll hull over
  • Glass the interior
  • fit fuel tank
  • Install buoyancy foam for compliance to meet LEVEL flotation
  • Fit and glass the sole down
  • Install side decks and other optional fittings
  • Paint the hull
  • Launch day

MATERIALS LIST FOR THE PRO TOURNAMENT 21

The following list of materials for the Pro Tournament 24 is approximate and intended for calculation of approximate costs. We offer no guarantees of accuracy. The list is for all timber in the construction of hull, deck and interior, including building stocks, temporary bracing etc. Allowance has been made in the quantities for about 10% wastage, with the exception of the building stocks and chipboard, which are net.

Resin & glass quantities are only approx

CHIPBOARD or MDF
8ft by 4ft (2.44 x1.22m) 19mm (3/4") - 13 sheets approx.
WESTERN RED CEDAR/ PAULOWNIA TIMBER
30mm x 12mm  - 27 sq.m  (291 sq.ft) - Hull planking/ decking
EXTERIOR PLYWOOD (Density of no less than 600 kg/m^3)
9mm (3/8") - 4 sheets approx.
19mm (3/4") - 13 sheets
RESIN & GLASS
(for coatings and reinforced areas)
Epoxy resin & Hardener - 200 kg
450g/sq.m Double Bias - 200 sq.m
10 kg glue powder ( Cabosil-FGI)
10 kg Q-Cells ( fairing powder)

This Materials list above covers all the supplies for boat as designed.

Usage of materials may vary due to several factors. For example, an experienced builder will use less resin. Our resin calculations are based on a 50% glass content.

Options, customization and variations in fabric and foam cutting preferences will also affect the Bill Of Materials. Our figures show an estimated average. Although small variations in fiberglass specifications are acceptable, please consult us for substitutions.

PLEASE NOTE:
This boat CANNOT be built from foam core materials or aluminium.
